With reference to my Despatch

No. 316 of the 4th. instant, I have the honour to inform

Your Lordship that the cost of my telegram of the 24th. of

last July was $17.50. As that telegram was sent at the

request of Mr. H. E. Haggard in accordance with Your

Lordship's instructions conveyed to me in Despatch No. 105

of the 18th. of last June, I had proposed to recover the

cost from Mr. Haggard on his return: but, since Mr.

Haggard has now vacated his appointment, I presume that

the sum cannot be recovered and I have therefore given

orders that it is to be written off.

2.

No pay should be issued to Mr.

Haggard for any period after the 30th. of last July.
